Wonderful Lucas Santa Claus Day

The weather was perfect for the Lucas Santa Claus Day on Dec. 17th at the Lucas Theater. Santa had no snow storms to delay his visit with the kids. About 150 people enjoyed the business and Christmas drawings, free movie with pop and popcorn, and 75 kids gave Santa their Christmas list.

The Lucas PRIDE Committee awarded Raquel Sharp with the 2011 Youth Community Service Award which included a certificate, $100 scholarship, and Cougar glass etching for her many years of community service. Raquel finished her senior year in Natoma High School where she continued to excel as a volunteer in Lucas and at school. She was the SADD club President and the Vice-President of the Junior Sate of America club. Her community service in Lucas included the Lucas Theater, Lucas Area Chamber of Commerce festival and community dinners, and the Lucas PRIDE Mini Park Christmas decorations. Raquel is a valuable asset to the Lucas community.

The Lucas Medical Foundation thanked Kayanne Meitler for her years of service to the Lucas Community with a plaque and stained glass angel. The community applauded Kayanne for her dedication to the area communities.

The winners of the business drawings and Christmas Decorations Contest were announced. Brant’s Meat Market gave two $25 gift certificates to Georgia Schwemmer and Alicia Seirer. Leach and Naegele Hardware gave two $25 gift certificates to Ramona Echer and Steve Hawkins. The winner of the year subscription to the Lucas/Sylvan News was Melissa Hawkins. Troy’s Grocery gave a $ gift certificate to Jessica Seirer. Winner of the Lucas Theater drawings were Dayton Couse was drawn for the 24” Youth Bicycle while Selena Molina, Abby Scinto, and Bridget Lantz each received a 10 movie punch card. Winners of the Chamber of Commerce Drawings were Dayton Couse and Darcy Couse. The PRIDE Christmas Decorations Contest winners were Danny Steinle for Judges Choice, Tereasa Erbert for the Santa Claus is Coming to Town song, and Gordon Bretz was drawn from the names of those who had Nativities in their yard. Next year the categories will be Judges Choice, the Oh Christmas Tree song, and Nativities. Start thinking about your strategy for decorating your yard in 2012. Take a drive around town and enjoy the decorations while visiting the Lucas PRIDE Mini Park to enjoy the dancing lights and Christmas carols.

The free pop and popcorn during the free movie of Arthur Christmas in 3D was much appreciated by kids and adults. Sponsors were Lucas Lions Club, Sylvan Lions Club, Bennington State Bank of Lucas & Sylvan, Lucas RV Park & Laundry, Troy’s Grocery, Brant’s Meat Market, Lucas Publishing Company, North Star Realty, Home Oil Service, Heinze & Associates, Rodrick & Minear Funeral Homes, Tom Hill Realty, The Farmers Bank of Luray & Osborne, and the Lucas Theater.

Santa landed at the Theater just after the movie to visit with the kids. Brianna Steinle helped the kids on stage to visit Santa, while Rita Sharp took pictures of their visit on Santa’s lap. Raquel Sharp handed out the treats to each kid sponsored by the city of Lucas and Lucas Chamber of Commerce. Santa has a lot of presents to get ready for Christmas morning.

Holiday Gift Show was Great for Local Shopping!

On Nov. 19th at the Lucas Theater from 9am to 3pm. KAYS Club had a Bake Sale at 9am till it was all SOLD. The Lucas Chamber of Commerce Lunch Stand from 11am to 1pm had delicious pulled pork sandwiches or hot dogs, chips, cookies or brownies, and drink. Vendors included Mary Kay cosmetics, handmade jewelry, stained glass and etchings, paintings, quilt wall hangings, gifts for your pets, Avon products, embroidered gifts, Scentsy products, Miche purses, crochet items, bird houses, It Works Body Applicators, and Christmas ornaments. Thirteen vendors and over sixty shoppers enjoyed some early Christmas shopping with Christmas music playing inside and outside on Main Street.
